Rapid City, SD (2018)

Pennington County Courthouse is a mixed bag of additions to a beautiful 1922 Beaux-Arts design. Our charge was to add a new entrance. And to marry the previous additions.

Some of the previous additions were more successful than others. The county needed a new front door to improve security, accessibility and circulation. We wanted the solution to blend modern and historic architecture as seamlessly as possible.

We worked with Gage Brothers, a local precaster, to develop exterior details. Together, we earned a precast design award from the Construction Industry Center (CIC).
