Sioux Falls, SD (2018)

Here’s a monastery for the Perpetual Adoration Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament in Sioux Falls. They’re from Veracruz, Mexico. Nosotros no hablamos español, pero estamos aprendiendo.

We’ve done a bit of work for the Catholic Diocese of Sioux Falls over the years, including some updates to the bishop’s residence. That’s on the campus of the Cathedral of St. Joseph. So is this monastery. As a new build surrounded by historic architecture, we had to design the exterior with context in mind.

We kept the nuns in mind too, of course. At almost 27,000 SF, the monastery has everything they need to support their cloistered lifestyle. There’s space for prayer, studying, sewing, laundry, cooking, and making hosts for the diocese. There’s even a courtyard where they like to play soccer. Or fútbol, I should say.
