Watertown, SD (2025)

The old Watertown Stadium (aka WPA Project 4265) was formerly the home of WHS football. Located a couple miles from the high school, it’s a colosseum-like concrete structure with lots of history that still stands today. Problem is, it’s also home to the WHS and Post 17 Legion baseball teams. I’m not sure if you’ve ever been tackled on dirt, but you can imagine the scars.

The Allen Mitchell Athletic Complex – just a stone’s throw from the high school – is the new home of WHS football, plus soccer and track & field. You’ll find no dirt infield here.

Instead, you’ll find an all-turf complex with increased seating capacity for home and away fans, a fully outfitted press box, and spacious locker rooms in a support building that also houses an athletic training room, public restrooms, and concessions. The new grandstands accommodate 3,808 fans, plus 83 in the press box. At night, the grandstands and support building glow WHS purple.

This complex is meant to be a source of pride for the Arrows and their fans. And to inspire a bit of envy in visiting schools. We’re biased, but we think this stadium rivals that of any other high school in the state.
