We’re a design and planning firm dedicated to creating better architecture in our own backyard.

CO-OP was born in 2012, on the first of June, with just a handful of us between Aberdeen and Sioux Falls. Rapid City came along in 2016. Today we’re a group of 30 or so Midwesterners with a simple shared vision: to make life better in our communities.

The name CO-OP is a tribute to the cooperation that underpins life in the heartland. Our firm designs all manner of architecture, save for single family homes and multi-family/developer stuff. We don’t really do that. But we do schools, offices, downtown mixed-use, restorations, civic/public work, and the like. We also do interior design and master planning. We once did a 1/3 scale pirate ship. We don’t do pirate ships anymore.

We want to help define South Dakota architecture. To celebrate our history and pragmatic roots but challenge the status quo. We want our communities to really thrive. We want better architecture in our own backyard.

You can learn a thing or two about each of us below. We’re always on the lookout for more talented folks, so if you’re interested in joining our effort, click here and tell us about yourself.
