Here’s an idea for a new-age strip mall/entertainment village on the campus of an existing sports complex. A hub for downtime between games, maybe.

If constructed, the village would sit at a busy intersection of campus near several main attractions and venues. With space for retail/food/drink in the building itself and activities like pickle ball, shuffleboard, cornhole, etc. in the courtyard, it’d be the gathering place for pre- and post-event entertainment.

The site is typically windy, without much natural or built protection, so we thought this building should be more than a traditional strip mall. Our modular solution creates multiple indoor and outdoor experiences for guests and protects them from the elements when in the courtyard.

While the off-kilter modules seem complex at first glance, they actually follow a simple/reproducible grid system developed with the help of a structural engineer. This system should reduce costs and help us pitch the design to builders. Plus it looks cool.
