Sioux Falls, SD (2023)
Located among the old 8th Street warehouses of downtown Sioux Falls, the Monick Pipe Building used to be a place where plumbers (or laypeople about to botch a plumbing project) could buy pipes, valves, flanges and whatnot. Now it’s an event venue kitty-corner from our Sioux Falls shop. Another fun adaptive reuse project under our belt.
When designing a reuse project, our general policy is to clean it up and get out of the way. Let the old stuff do the talking, that is. We stuck to that credo with Monick Yards, polishing up the wood structure in the Reception Hall to make a warm & airy interior environment. Good for dinner and dancing.
The other big space in the 12,000 SF venue is the Grand Hall, which is where you’d do the more boring (but supposedly more important) part of your wedding. Painted white to allow flowers and other decorations to pop. The two spaces are connected via hallway, eliminating the need to flip the room between ceremony and reception.
We also added lots of windows, attached a pergola to the facade to create a patio space, selected fixtures and finishes, added a catering kitchen, and did some detail work with cutouts in the two bar areas and dressing rooms.
With mostly barn-style event venues in and around Sioux Falls, we think Monick makes a statement. You can cruise around the space virtually by clicking here.
