Parker, SD (2025)
Parker, South Dakota, home of the Pheasants and the world-famous Turner County Fair. The Pheasants like their sports and their CTE, so we helped them out with a new gym and shop building at the high school. Two birds; one stone.
The new building – which houses an auxiliary gym, locker rooms, the shop, and a CTE classroom – sits on the site of the demolished 1912 academic building and connects to existing circulation in the high school.
The shop is outfitted for woodwork and welding, among other activities. A mezzanine above the CTE classroom and locker rooms overlooks the shop and serves as a perch for athletic event recording and streaming. The mezzanine level also hosts storage and mechanical equipment.
Altogether, the space is an economical one that enhances the District’s academic and extracurricular offerings and aligns with the community’s sense of what matters. A win for all involved.
