Willow Lake, SD (2025)
The Cyclones of Willow Lake were in need of a fresh commons space, a new shop and CTE wing, a facelift for some existing areas of the school, and a new playground for the little ones. Oh, and could we explore where they might put a football field in the future? You bet.
These laundry lists become more manageable with a master plan. Through walkthroughs and workshops, we worked with facility users to understand existing conditions, daydream about the future state of the school and District, and then prioritize wants and needs. From there, we worked through several iterations of plan options, with the district guiding the decision-making and ultimately determining the end product.
Thanks to that process, the Cyclones crossed off the immediate priorities on their list and have concrete ideas for how to address the remaining items in the future. For now, they’re enjoying that new kitchen, commons and stage, a CTE wing complete with an ag shop, science labs and modern FACS classroom, and a fully-equipped accessible playground. Football will come in due time.
