Aberdeen, SD (2023)

When we started picking up small-time roof and window replacements to get our foot in the door at NSU back in the early 2010s, we didn’t anticipate updating their campus master plan a decade or so later. But, after doing work in just about every building, you’re generally a good candidate for that sort of thing. Our friends at Confluence were a big help too.

This update was primarily about connecting NSU to the rest of Aberdeen, freshening some aging facilities, and improving circulation, wayfinding, and outdoor spaces throughout campus.

We had conversations with University leadership and user groups about how Aberdeen could become more of a college town that rallies around the Wolves and supports the school’s growth and longevity. We took stock of their facilities – a healthy mix of historic and modern structures – and provided recommendations for upgrades. And we studied how students move about campus and spend their free time, plus how visitors perceive the University and its properties.

The end result was a long-term, integrated plan that, if executed, will get NSU one big step closer to aligning its facilities and campus culture with the current and future demands of higher education. Nothing is ever done, of course, but a commitment to constant improvement and a willingness to evolve is what sets the best schools apart.

We’ll continue to be there for NSU as they grow and change. Even if it’s a roof replacement.
